‘A woman having a relationship with another man is not entitled to permanent alimony after divorce’: High Court

A woman having a relationship with an estranged man is not entitled to permanent maintenance from her husband after divorce. The Punjab-Haryana High Court has made it clear in such cases that if it is proved before the divorce that the woman has relations with an estranged man and this is a reason for granting the divorce. Then in such cases the woman is not entitled to get permanent maintenance from her husband after divorcing him.

A division bench of Justice Ritu Bahri and Justice Nidhi Gupta delivered this verdict in one such case, rejecting the woman’s demand for permanent alimony. A petition was filed by the woman to set aside the decision of the family court at Ambala, which had not accepted the demand for permanent maintenance.
