Mobile phones smuggled into the prisons could be used by the inmates for any illegal purposes and is a threat to security. During the search operation, one mobile which said to be the most wanted banned item, has been recovered from the prisoner at Central Jail Ferozepur.

Recovery of banned items – especially the most wanted item of mobile to remain in touch with family members and rivals, to give practical action by making threat calls to the crimes by contacting their counterparts or group members – during the search operation and throwing of material from outside has become a regular feature putting the security arrangements inside and outside the jail premises at high risk.

Recently the Minister for Jails on his visit to Ferozepur has given the indication of shifting the existing jail from the thickly populated area to the outskirts of the city and taking up the matter with the mobile operators to jam the mobiles inside the jail premises.

Giving this information, Dalip Kumar, IO appointed to investigate the case informed that on Friday, during the search operation, one mobile phone of Samsung brand – Keypad of white color with battery and SIM card was recovered from prisoner Jagtar Singh of village Badra, Tehsil Tpa in District Barnala.

He said, a case under Section 52-A Prisons Act has been registered at City Police Station on the complaint of Sukhwant Singh Assistant Superintendent, Central Jail Ferozepur. Further investigations are on with a special focus on how the mobiles were managed inside the jail premises and the purpose of its use on scrutiny, after getting the call’s details.
