Lockdown has hit the family income, children leaving private and enrolling in government schools.

The lockdown caused by the coronavirus has affected the employment of millions of people, a large number of people have lost their jobs, so a new thing is emerging in Punjab and Haryana. Many families here are taking their children out of private schools and enrolling them in government schools as they can no longer afford private schools.

Due to Covid-19, the lockdown implemented across the country since the end of March has worsened the economic condition of many, after which the parents of some school children cannot pay the fees of private schools.

The total number of students in government schools in 2019-20 was 23.52 lakh, which has increased to 25.62 lakh in the session of 2020-21. The number of admissions in pre-primary classes has increased from 2.25 lakhs to 2.95 lakhs. In class 9th and 10th it has increased from 3.91 to 4.13 and in class 11th and 12th it has increased from 3.12 lakh to 3.69 lakh. However, for this, Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla has described the growing facility in government schools.

He said, “Our government is taking better decisions for policies and facilities on government schools, due to which children are shifting from private to government.
