2 months delay in pronouncing judgment, Supreme Court judge apologized

Supreme Court Justice B. R. Gavai has apologized for pronouncing the verdict with a delay of 2 months in one case. Justice Gavai presented a unique example in cases of delayed judgment in the court. This is the first time in history that a judge has apologized for the delay in pronouncing the verdict. Justice Gavai not only apologized for the delay in giving judgment in the case related to Chandigarh but also explained the reason for the delay.

Justice B. R. Gawai and M. M Sundaresh was pronouncing the judgment in the case of a petition filed against the large-scale challan for converting single residential units into apartments in Chandigarh city. He said that we had to consider the rules announced under all the provisions of various laws. Justice Gavai said that because of this it took more than two months after the judgment was reserved on November 3, 2022.

Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai registered as an advocate in 1985 and practiced law mainly in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. He worked as a public prosecutor and then as a public prosecutor for the Maharashtra government. If seniority is followed, Justice Gavai will serve as the Chief Justice of India from May 14 to November 24, 2025. Since his appointment to the Supreme Court in May 2019, Justice Gavai has delivered 68 judgments (till May 2022). These judgments deal with criminal matters, property, electricity, family and motor vehicle laws.
