Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has fulfilled its election promise of providing free electricity to every household. Giving information in this regard, Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the previous governments used to cheat the people by making false promises to get votes, but the government led by Bhagwant Mann managed to reduce the electricity bill to zero in the first year of its tenure. The promise has been fulfilled.
The Power Minister said that 600 units of free electricity (300 units per month) have been provided to all domestic consumers benefiting from an annual subsidy of Rs 5,629 crore. Along with this, the subsidy of Rs 3 per unit for domestic consumers up to 7 KW has been continued, which will result in a benefit of Rs 1,278 crore. The power minister said that with this initiative, about 90 per cent households are now getting “zero” electricity bill and this figure is expected to increase further by January, 2023.
