Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a big announcement to end the problem related to charging of electric vehicles on national highways. Apart from the existing seven facilities (WSAs) equipped with EV charging stations, the central government has decided to build 137 more similar facilities on India’s national highways.
Let us tell you that these charging stations will be installed at regular intervals, so that EV drivers do not have to face any kind of problem. Kurgaon-Allahabad Bypass on National Highway NH2, Govaravaram-Andhra Pradesh on NH 16, Vallur-Andhra Pradesh on NH176, Yedehalli-Karnataka on NH40, two Jaipur and one Tamil Nadu highways are included. According to the information, earlier seven stations were built on these routes and now their number is being increased.
Gadkari told Rajya Sabha that these roadside charging stations will be installed at regular intervals of 30 to 40 km on the Brownfield National Highway and Greenfield Expressway. According to data provided by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a total of 43 public charging stations are currently operational on 16 national highways across the country. Along with this, it will be mandatory to install it on the roads to be built after February 2021.
