Amidst the claims of giving cheap liquor in Punjab, the news of liquor becoming expensive has come to light. Due to the open discount, the wholesale liquor businessmen of the state have increased the prices of liquor by 25 to 30 percent at their level for restaurants-bars and marriage palaces in many big cities. Especially in Ludhiana, wholesalers have issued their own separate rate list.
Dealing a major blow to the owners of bars, restaurants, hotels and marriage palaces, the liquor traders have voluntarily increased the prices. The new rates set by the liquor sellers have been increased by 25 to 30 per cent, while for buying less goods they will have to pay the same price per bottle as applicable to retail consumers. Not only this, the liquor businessmen have also set a condition that the hotel operators have to buy the liquor from the nearest shop only.
According to the rate list prepared for hotel, bar, restaurant and marriage palace owners, the price of a box of 100 Pipers (12 year aged), Teacher’s-50, Bombay Sapphire and other similar brands has now been fixed at Rs 20,000 instead of Rs 15,600. If the same brand is bought in less than one box then you will have to pay Rs 2,000 instead of Rs 1,300, similarly the price of Shiv’s Regal, JW Black Label, Gray Goose and other brands has now been reduced to Rs 30,000 per box instead of Rs 23,000. is
