Once again (smoke) has returned in Delhi. A day before Diwali, the air quality is so bad that the entire capital is shrouded in smog today. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi recorded an overall air quality index (AQI) of 251 at 6.30 am. Due to this, there was a foggy atmosphere in the capital.
A similar situation prevailed in East Delhi. Due to bad wind there was fog near Akshardham temple. Along with this, people also faced problems in the movement of vehicles.
For the last few days, the air quality has been recorded as bad in the capital. Last evening i.e. Saturday, the total AQI in the capital was 266. If we talk about Delhi University, the air quality here was worst. The AQI here was 327. Let’s say that AQI between zero and 50 is good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory, 101 and 200 is moderate, 201 and 300 is bad, 301 and 400 is very bad, if the highest is reached i.e. between 401 and 500 the situation is bad and alarming.
Along with this, during the announcement of the plan in October, the minister had said that 39 percent of air pollution in Delhi is produced locally. Apart from this, the nearby areas are also the cause of pollution. The Delhi government has announced the ‘Red Light on Vehicle Bandh’ campaign to reduce vehicular pollution.
