Vigilance arrests patwari red-handed for taking bribe of 6,000

Punjab Vigilance Bureau today arrested block development and panchayat officer, Patwari Sukhbir Singh posted in Guruharshay district Ferozepur red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. While giving information, the Vigilance spokesperson said that the said patwari was arrested on the complaint of Sarpanch Manpreet Singh and Harcharan Singh, residents of village Kohar Singh Wala, Tehsil Guruharshay.

Giving information, he said that the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and alleged that the said patwari was demanding a bribe of Rs 12,000 in exchange for assisting in a court case, but the deal was settled for Rs 7,500. He further said that the accused patwari has already taken Rs 1500 and is asking for the remaining Rs 6000.

After investigating the complaint, the vigilance team from Ferozepur range laid a trap and arrested the accused Patwari while accepting Rs 6000 as second installment of bribe in the presence of two government witnesses and recovered the bribe money from him in the presence of two government witnesses . He said that a case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Vigilance Police Station Ferozepur and further action has been taken.
