A campaign against drugs was launched by the Punjab government. Under this campaign, many consignments of drugs were recovered by the Punjab Police. Punjab government is disposing of all the drugs seized last month. A high-level drug disposal committee was formed under the leadership of Ludhiana range IPS Inspector General of Police (IG) Kaustubh Sharma. SSP Bhagirath Meena, SP Investigation SBS Mukesh Kumar were present in this committee.
According to officials, 37,620 kg of heroin seized in 16 cases in Nawan city and many other drugs have been destroyed. Along with this, the drugs seized in the case of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited in Nawanshahr were also destroyed. The narcotics burnt on Wednesday included 116.679 kg of poppy, 32 grams of narcotic powder, 70 grams of hashish, 80 grams of narcotic tablets and 306 narcotic injections.
