A double blow to the Congress in Gujarat, it did not get the throne, it will not get the position of the opposition!

With the defeat in the 2022 assembly elections in Gujarat, the Congress has received a double blow. Congress has not only faced a humiliating defeat this time, but the country’s oldest party is also in danger of losing the post of Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. Moreover, this is also the most disappointing performance of Congress in the history of Gujarat, when it could not even touch the figure of 20. In the western state of the country which has 182 assembly seats, the Congress is seen winning only 16 seats.

It should be said that due to poor performance in the last two Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has not been able to get the chair of the leader of the opposition at the centre. In 2014, the Congress could win only 44 seats in the 543-seat Lok Sabha and when Mallikarjun Kharge was asked for the post of Leader of the Opposition, the then Speaker Sumitra Mahajan refused citing rules. After this, even in 2019, Congress could win only 52 seats, while at least 55 seats are needed in the Lok Sabha to get the post of Leader of the Opposition.
