Patiala district administration has taken major action on firearms and suspended 274 firearms licenses and banned public display of weapons and songs promoting gun culture following the orders of the Mann government. Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sahni said on Saturday that this action has been taken in the case of having more than two weapons on one license. Show cause notices have also been issued and license holders have been asked why it should not be cancelled, the official said.
The district magistrate’s office has also shared a list of around 30,000 firearm licenses with the police department to verify any criminal misconduct, the official said. Let us tell you that on November 13, the Punjab government banned the display of weapons in public and also banned songs allegedly promoting gun culture and violence. The government has tightened the rules after facing criticism from the opposition over the law and order situation.
