Punjab Police has arrested 6997 drug smugglers including 1097 big fish since 5th July 2022 in the fifth month of the decisive war against drugs launched on the directive of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. . The police have registered a total of 5346 FIRs, out of which 580 are related to trade.

IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that police teams have recovered 259.7 kg of heroin from across the state, which is conducting cordon and search operations in drug-affected areas. Apart from this, 147.5 kg of heroin was recovered from the ports of Gujarat and Maharashtra by the teams of Punjab Police, which took the total effective recovery of heroin to 406.5 kg in just 4 months.

Apart from seizing a huge amount of heroin, the police have recovered 300 kg of opium, 197.2 kg of ganja, 293 quintal of poppy and 27.56 lakh drug capsules, injections, vials of pharma opioids from across the state. The police have also recovered drug money worth Rs 4.49 crore from the possession of drug smugglers arrested in these four months.

Drug money worth Rs 4.5 lakh including 1.20 lakh tablets/capsules/injections/vials of quintal poppy and pharma opioids has been recovered.
