Alto, the entry-level model of the country’s largest car company Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), has completed two decades. In these 20 years, the company has sold more than 4 million units of Alto. In a statement released on Tuesday, Maruti said that 20 years of Alto have been completed, this model today is with 4 million Indian families. The company said that there have been many changes in this model during the last two decades. Alto has been ‘upgraded’ to suit customer needs.
Shashank Srivastava, executive director (marketing and sales), Maruti said, “Alto has changed the way India operates during the last two decades. Alto has been the best-selling car for the last 16 years. This model is still winning the hearts of Indians. ”Shrivastava said that the charm of this model has increased after each update. It is a favorite model of first time car buyers.
He said, “It was the first car for 76 percent of Alto buyers in 2019-20. In the current year, this figure has increased to 84 percent. The company introduced Alto in 2000. Alto had a sales figure of 10 lakhs in 2008. It crossed 20 lakh sales in 2012 and 30 lakh in 2016.
