Ganeshchaturthi is also known as Vinayakachavithi. This auspicious Hindu festival is celebrated for 10 days every year. The festival is celebrated in theBhadra month as per the Hindu calendar which generally falls in mid August to September. This religious festival marks the birthday of our beloved Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, who brings peace and love with him every year. It is celebrated all over India. In 2020, it will be celebrated on August 22. It is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra. On Ganeshchaturthi women make delicious “modaks” as parsad, which is loved by Lord Ganesha.
Lord Ganesha is worshipped for his distinct forms like BalGanesha, Siddhivinayakmaharaj, and Dhagruseth. The Ganeshpuja starts with Vedic hymns, prayers, vrata and with Ganeshupnishad. Ganeshchaturthi includes 4 stages of rituals –
- Pranapratistha- It includes the bringing of the Idol of Lord Ganesha into the mandirat home. During this, people pray and sing various folk songs while bringing Lord Ganesha’smurti.
- Shodasopachara – During this people do puja and offer prayers and bhog to lord Ganesha.
- Uttarpuja–It involves a ceremony after which deity is moved from his position.
- GanpatiVisarjan – At this stage, the idol is immersed into the river,sea or ocean.
In this way we celebrate our beloved Lord Ganesha’s birthday. Although these celebrations are done for 10 days but we should follow his philosophies and preachings, so that we can make our society,surroundings and nation more peaceful and a better place to live in. Lord Ganesha is always worshipped first so that his blessings may destroy all the upcoming obstacles while starting any task. We should also give our best wishes to others for their every new startup and spread positivity and sweetness all around like delighting Modaks.
