Mandi Gobindgarh became the victim of Covid-19

Positive cases are reported daily from the town and adjoining villages…

Mandi Gobindgarh which is  Asia’s biggest Steel town, has now become a hot spot for COVID-19 . As approximately, on average 10 positive cases are reported daily from the town and adjoining villages having large number of industrial units. District Magistrate Amrit Kaur Gill has declared micro containment Zone to  the Police Station area of Mandi Gobindgarh town and the adjoining industrial hub Village Kumbhra . All the activities in these areas have stopped with immediate effect. No activity will be initiated without the prior permission of Deputy Commissioner. The door to door survey is being under taken and the samples of all the residents of the area are being collected.

The residents of the town allege that illegal inflow of migrant laborers in large number is the main cause of the spread of COVID -19 in the town. They said that private transporters in connivance with officials are transporting the migrant laborers from UP and Bihar in large number without informing the officials, whereas as per the State government all those who come from other States are required to report at border and to fill the form for COVID test, which is mandatory and must be quarantine. The residents allege that daily late in the night large numbers of buses bring the migrants and drop them in nearby villages and from there they are taken to industry by labour contractors. They urge the Deputy Commissioner to check this illegal entry of migrants in the town to control the spread of COVID.
