Wellington Punjabi Women’s Association is organizing ‘Mela Punjabana Da’ on August 1 at 5 pm at Town Hall Layings Road.
While the nation’s capital, Wellington, presents legislation to Parliament after serious deliberation, it also hosts a number of state-level and social events. The Punjabi community is also a major contributor here and the Punjabis living here always come up with some programs. Now the Wellington Punjabi Women’s Association is organizing ‘Mela Punjabana Da’ on August 1 at 5 pm at Town Hall Layings Road. It is noteworthy that Punjabis from India and Pakistan will perform Giddha, Bhangra and other cultural activities like Bollywood dance on the same stage.
The wives of the High Commissioners of India and Pakistan, Sarkhi Pradeshi and Sathira Tufail, respectively, will be the chief guests at the fair to ensure fraternal ties between the two countries. At the end of the program, all the women gathered will dance and celebrate in the open air. The aim of all these fairs is to create more awareness about women’s rights and create a sense of equality.
A special honor has been extended to a Punjabi police officer girl from Auckland, Loveleen Kaur (Detective Constable-Crime Squad). Harjeet Kaur from Radio Spice presenter, stage manager and Punjabi Heritage will take the stage during the entire program.
